Cookie Cravings Bakery Relaunching as Cravings Carryout Café

When Cookie Cravings Bakery opened little over two years ago in the Italian Village, it was with the intention of making and serving fine baked goods and confections, like sugar cookies, shortbread, and everything in between.

The bakery was started by Matt and Lindsey Tewanger and Matt’s Mother, Joan. The couple met while working at local hotspot, Basi Italia, and soon, Matt, who worked in the kitchen at Basi, as well as at Worthington Inn and The Refectory, was ready for the freedom, and responsibility, of self-employment.

The team bought the property at 227 East Third Avenue, and in 2011, launched Cookie Cravings Bakery. Matt is the main person in the kitchen, and he soon became bored with making the same sugary biscuits day in and day out.

Once a couple crèpe makers and an electric burner were added to the operation, savory items began to grace the menu, like Sausage Biscuits and Gravy and House-Made Hot Pockets. Rebranding became the inevitable next step as the menu no longer fit with the name.

“We ran into people all the time who lived a block away, and were surprised the ‘cookie shop’ had sandwiches,” shares Lindsey Tewanger on the expansion. “We knew it was time for a change. We want to be known as the place to grab an awesome lunch or early dinner. We are excited for what is to come.”

The new Cravings Carryout Café will continue to serve wraps and sandwiches, like the Carnitas, with braised pork shoulder and avocado tomatillo salsa on brioche, soups of the day, and brunch all the time, where customers can grab a Breakfast Burrito, a gourmet BLT, or Homemade Granola with Snowville Creamery Yogurt.

The space has also been slightly renovated to add four more seats to the inside, and additional hours have been affixed as the focus will be heavily on to-go orders. Sweet and savory crèpes will also still be a part of the menu, offered frequently as daily specials.

Cravings Carryout Café will be open Tuesday-Friday, 11am – 7pm, and Saturday-Sunday, 9am – 3pm beginning Saturday, March 8th. For a longer look at their menu, visit www.cravingscarryoutcafe.com.
