Construction to Start Soon on Trotter’s Gate Project in Harrison West

Construction is set to begin soon on a 144-unit apartment complex in Harrison West. The development — dubbed Trotter’s Gate in homage to the US Trotting Association offices that have occupied the site for decades — will consist of six three-story apartment buildings as well as a clubhouse, swimming pool, and about 1,200 square feet of retail space.

The project received approval and a letter of support from the Harrison West Society in February, but developer Snyder Barker Investments and their partners just closed on the three-and-a-half acre site last week. The area to be developed is bounded by Michigan Avenue, Thurber Drive West and Buttles Avenue.

“We are excited about this project because it will be situated in a quiet setting with great access to the Short North, Downtown, I-670, Rte 315 and the Olentangy bike path,” said Jason Snyder of Snyder Barker.

When Columbus Underground first reported on the project in January, Snyder said that they hoped to provide a more affordable alternative to the many new apartment units being built closer to High Street.

Parking for the apartments — which will be a mix of one- and two-bedroom units — will be provided in adjacent surface parking lots and in detached garages. The retail portion of the project will be connected to the clubhouse and located on the south end of the site.

Snyder said that the timeline for completion depends heavily on what type of weather we see this winter, but the first units in the development could be available as early as summer of 2015.
