Franklin Park Conservatory has commissioned artist James Turrell to create a permanent light installation in the Palm House, conservatory executive director Bruce Harkey announced at a press conference on Thursday.

“The Palm House is the center piece of the park,” Harkey said. “James Turrell’s light installation will make the landmark building into a work of art.”

Turrell’s installation will place the conservatory among a group of architectural light projects in the United States and among a list of international projects in France, Japan, Germany and Switzerland, a press release said. It is set to premiere in fall 2008.
