Condado Announces New Downtown Location at Highpoint

Tex-Mex taqueria Condado is adding its footprint to the burgeoning Downtown Columbus population, building a second restaurant at Columbus Commons.

The build-your-own taco restaurant will open at 132 South High Street in the north end of the Highpoint on Columbus Commons apartment building. Owner Joe Kahn signed the lease for the new restaurant yesterday. The 3,500 square-foot interior will seat 150, with a High Street-facing patio seating an additional 150.

The original Short North Condado opened at 1227 North High Street in November 2014. The menu of the new Downtown Condado will remain the same, featuring a Scantron-like build-your-own taco menu and selection of margaritas and draft beers. The artwork will differ slightly, but continue the vibrant Day of the Dead theme

“We loved the synergy of what’s going on Downtown, and what’s being built residentially,” said Kahn. “We’re excited about reaching a new market — there’s so many millennials that frequent this area.”

They’re anticipating a busy lunch and happy hour from the Downtown crowd, as well as pulling resident traffic from the nearby Brewery District, German Village and Olde Towne East.

Kahn has his sights set on a third Condado in Clintonville, which could open as early as this fall. He additionally has plans to expand nationally. For now, he’s looking to delve into the Cincinnati market.

Condado at Highpoint is slated for an early May opening.
