British hook-heavy guitar band The Struts brought their shamelessly retro-fetishist glamour-rock to Express Live! on Friday night for an evening of good time over-the-top frontman lead rock and roll.
Despite a fairly undersold Express Live! crowd, The Struts, and particularly the never stationary lead singer and perma-smiling Luke Spiller cranked up the energy as the band jumped straight into the pace setting and crowd directing, ‘Put Your Hands Up’, before keeping the night rolling with sing-along cuts from the bands current and upcoming albums.
There’s nothing revolutionary with The Struts sound, this is T. Rex, Queen and the Rolling Stones. But this band isn’t trying to change the world. This is all about letting go and and having a good time. And in the world we live in today, there’s nothing wrong with that at all.
Opening the evening were the relatively new and promising, Nightly, an alt-pop two piece out of Nashville with a sound that could happily live among the tunes that play on CD102.5
