Hundreds of planners, elected officials and community activists are expected to flock to Columbus in 2016 to address one very specific issue: creating safe routes for children to walk from home to school.
The Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission (MORPC), the Safe Routes to School National Partnership and the National Center for Safe Routes to School announced today that the fifth “Safe Routes to School National Conference” will take place at the Downtown Hilton on April 5-7 in 2016.
“MORPC is excited to host the 2016 National Safe Routes to School Conference,” said MORPC Executive Director William Murdock at a press conference held this morning. “We have promoted Safe Routes to School since 2009 and are proud of the progress that has been made in Central Ohio to provide a safe environment for children to walk and bike to school safely.”
The most recent conference was held in Sacramento in 2013 and was attended by over 600 participants.
“The Safe Routes to School National Conference is an essential opportunity to join hundreds of advocates and supporters from around the country for networking and sharing best practices,” explained Margo Pedroso, deputy director of the Safe Routes to School National Partnership. “We look forward to bringing together advocates, policy makers, school officials, and everyone interested in the health and safety of our children to experience all Columbus has to offer.”
