Last night, City Council approved an ordinance to accept $7.4 million in federal stimulus dollars to help fund a variety of energy efficiency and energy conservation projects throughout the city. The stimulus money was granted to be targeted at reducing fossil fuel emissions, reducing the city’s energy use, improving energy efficiency, and creating and retaining jobs.
The specific programs under consideration to benefit from this stimulus money include the retrofitting of 26 fire stations with energy efficient lighting, retrofitting all of the city’s pedestrian crosswalk signal lights with energy efficient LED bulbs, funding an energy efficient project at COSI designed to reduce their operational costs, and the implimentation of several bike parking infrastructure improvements including new bike shelters and bike parking facilities inside of existing parking garage areas.
