Columbus Ranked 10th Best City for Homeownership

A new ranking from NerdWallet.com (an online personal financial resource) has listed Columbus as its 10th best large city for homeownership in 2013. The methodology of the ranking examines the availability and affordability of homes as well as the growth rates of these cities.

Here’s what they had to say about Columbus:

Columbus is a great place to settle down and buy a home, with its low unemployment rate and low cost of living. This college town (home to the Ohio State University) has a laid-back Midwestern vibe, and the city has world-renowned hospitals (including The OSU Wexner Medical Center) and research centers as well as an up-and-coming dining scene.

Over the past 18 months, there has been a boom in the urban apartment market with thousands of new units under construction and industry experts predict that new rental development will not be slowing down anytime soon. Of course, that could eventually lead to a renewed interest in home ownership as apartments continue to grow more and more expensive.

The rest of the NerdWallet list was dominated by Texas with four cities ranked (Fort Worth, San Antonio, El Paso and Austin) and the only other midwestern city listed was Indianapolis.
