Press Release:
Release on 6/13 in Columbus, OH
After a string of singles and live releases dating back to 2012, abrasive Columbus punk group BARELY EAGLE are announcing the release of their debut LP with a show at Carabar on June 13th with Chicago’s A.M. Stations fellow Columbus group Brujas Del Sol, and another Columbus release show at Spacebar on 6/27.
Combining voice-shredding quasi-spoken word vocals, heavy down-tuned riffs and a healthy dose of noise, Barely Eagle is an exercise in catharsis through aggression. Songs like “Big Mouth” with its refrain of “Keep your big mouth shut!” and “They Call Me The Freeze” use repetition over building layers of heaviness to build up to a breaking point.
The band’s combined years of experience in the Columbus music scene is evidenced in the skilled guitar playing and incorporation of unexpected elements into their debut album. Look no further than the swirling, shoegaze-y guitar in the intro to “Big Mouth” and the middle section of opening banger “Half a Man.”
Barely Eagle consists of Tom Butler, Bil Jankowski, Ricky Thompson and Brian Travis, four Columbus lifers with careers, wives and kids getting their frustrations out. The members of Barely Eagle have been in many bands over the years including Go Evol Shiki, Church of the Red Museum, Muscle Puzzle, Hills, Deerhead, Nick Tolford & Co. and Moon High.
