Columbus Mega Summer Weekend 2008 – Vol. 1

Arguably, this past weekend marked the first true summer weekend in Columbus. The weather was spotty, but the major events were popping off in every corner of the city. This was one of those weekends where no one is allowed to use the excuse that “there’s nothing to do in Columbus”.

Rock on the Range blasted out of Crew Stadium all weekend long, which featured the first reunion show by the Stone Temple Pilots. Race for the Cure took place on Saturday morning and set an attendance record with over 40,000 participants. Village Valuables also took place Saturday morning in German Village, where people from all over the city go garage sailing. Hempfest took place on Saturday at OSU, while Flight of the Conchords took the stage at the Schott the night before. The Hell City Tattoo Festival took over part of the Convention Center for the weekend, and the North Market hosted their annual Apron Gala across the street on Saturday. And even though it wasn’t a gallery hop weekend, a great art event was still to be found over at Junctionview, where the Bike Art Show took place.

Just a great example of how there’s something for everyone in Columbus. Get ready for more big weekend events, all summer long.
