Columbus Crew SC’s Zack Steffen is MLS GoalKeeper of the Year
Exciting news for the Columbus Crew SC keeps coming. After a “world-class last-minute save from Crew SC goalkeeper Zack Steffen” in the Leg 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals against the New York Red Bulls on Sunday, it was announced yesterday that Zack Steffan had been voted the 2018 MLS Allstate Goalkeeper of the Year.
At 23, Steffen becomes the second-youngest player in MLS history to be named Goalkeeper of the Year and only the second player in Black & Gold history to earn this prestigious League honor. Steffen made his regular-season debut with the Columbus Crew SC in 2017.
“We are extremely proud of Zack for this tremendous honor,” said Sporting Director and Head Coach Gregg Berhalter in a statement. “Since Zack arrived at the club in 2016, he has been an excellent role model for young players coming to MLS, continually working to improve as a player, embracing a leadership role within the team and acting as a positive member of the community.”
Columbus will travel to New York for the second-leg next Sunday to decide who continues the march toward MLS Cup 2018.
