Columbus Crew SC grabbed a much needed victory on Wednesday night that will hopefully put their season back on track as New England fell 2-1 during a Wednesday night game at MAPFRE Stadium.
It took just 35 seconds for New England to take the lead as a sleepy Crew defense allowed New England to push forward and let Lee Nguyen place the ball into the back of the Crew SC net.
Crew SC immediately responded with Kai Kamara who was quickest to pounce on Federico Hiquain’s rebounded header and plant a header of his own past a helpless Bobby Shuttleworth in the New England goal.
In the second half Ethan Finlay added to his league leading assist tally by placing the ball at the feet of Kamara to add his twelfth goal of the season.
The goal was immediately met with complaints from the New England players as it looked to all as if Finlay handled the ball in the box. However, the call wasn’t given and the goal stood.
The game ended with a series of yellow cards and heated challenges that stopped the flow of the game and mostly helped Crew SC to hold of for their first win since early May.
