It hardly seemed like a contest when announced months ago, but tradition and technology are running neck and neck in a test of new parking meters for Columbus.

Credit-friendly, bill-accepting machines that control dozens of spaces in the Short North and Arena District have been prone to glitches in their first weeks of operation, city officials say.

Meanwhile, the coin-eating standbys are still plugging away, a nickel, dime or quarter at a time.
