Co-Ed Walk-In Salon Bishops Opening in Old Three Dog Bakery Space

After an opening in Clintonville last August, Bishops, the co-ed walk-in hair salon from Portland, will open a new location in the Short North this spring. Occupying the space recently vacated by 10-year Short North business Three Dog Bakery, Kellie Wurtzman said Bishops will have access to a central location, helping to further spread the Bishops brand throughout Columbus.

“From the very beginning, we were looking in the Short North, and it just took a long time to find the right spot,” Wurtzman said. “The vibe of the Short North and the artistic nature of the street is a perfect fit for the shop.”

Bishops has a habit of immersing in the local arts scene, offering up its space for artists to display pieces and collect revenue at no charge. At the Clintonville space, much of the art is displayed in a gallery format, but Wurtzman is on the hunt for some local artists to create a permanent mural or two at their new digs.

The space at 611 N. High St. offers 1,700 square feet, enough room for 10 chairs. As with other Bishops locations, the Short North shop will be walk-in only and will offer a full range of services to all genders, including cuts, colors and shaves.

Bishops will access their new space on March 1 with an opening planned for mid-May. It’s the second of what Wurtzman said will be three Columbus locations. For the third, she’s eyeing Grandview.

“Coming into a brand new market it’s certainly tough to get the name out, so we’re happy to have two locations to do that,” Wurtzman said. “I’m really excited to have two locations on High Street flanked like this, just to give more presence to the name.”
