Bishops, the Portland-based co-ed salon-slash-barbershop, will open in Clintonville this weekend. Franchise owner Kellie Wurtzman hand-picked the neighborhood for her “judgement free” business, aiming to add to the culture created by area shops and residents.
“The Clintonville neighborhood is so diverse and open to new ideas and views it was the perfect place to showcase and launch the Bishops brand here in Columbus,” Wurtzman said.
Setting up at 4223 N. High St., Bishops will be neighbor to the Little Eater and Hot Chicken Takeover. The space, occupying a new building on the southwest corner of High and Deland, offers 1,300 square feet for Wurtzman’s 10 retro-style barber chairs.
Bishops will offer services sought by men, women, and everyone in between — namely cuts, colors, and shaves. Don’t bother calling ahead, though. The co-ed shop accepts customers on a walk-in basis.
Inside, Wurtzman will feature a 14-piece, curated art exhibit from “a slew of rising artists,” and she’ll make available some free gallery space for up and coming local artists. Bishops TVs will have their own music and video collection as well.
“We aren’t a salon, we aren’t a barbershop,” Wurtzman said. “We are the best of both in a casual, fun environment where both the stylists and customers are encouraged to be who they want to be judgement free.”
Bishops opens this Saturday, August 5. Their hours of operation are Sunday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Monday through Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
