Clintonville area Salons and Barbershops are teaming up during the month of March for a hygiene drive and competition to benefit the Clintonville-Beechwold Community Resource Center (CRC).

Come Together will be a charity competition featuring Virtue Salon, Bishops, Longview, Lucky 13, Rendezvous and Thirty 30, to see which business can collect the most amount of hygiene products for donation.

The idea was sparked by Vanessa Williamson, owner of Rendezvous Salon, after attending one of Virtue Salon’s charity events. After a visit to the CRC and discussing the need of the facility, the Come Together collaboration was created.

“There are many individuals in the Clintonville area that may have come into difficult circumstances and have no way of obtaining certain resources,” says Emma Buchbinder, Virtue Salon’s manager and marketing integrator. “For this reason, we are committed and thrilled to raise awareness of our community’s needs and rally people to give back together.”

“Hairdressers play a unique role in the community, which gives us contact with so many individuals,” says Melanie Guzzo, owner and creative director for Virtue Salon. “We want to use our unique role to rally people to give back to the community.”

Virtue Salon has built a long-standing relationship with the CRC, having had past donation and charity events to benefit the facility. The Come Together campaign is another opportunity to provide resources that are often overlooked. Hygiene products like shampoo, conditioner, body wash, feminine hygiene products, toothpaste, hand sanitizer, wet wipes, cotton swabs, shaving supplies, etc. are a constant need for resource centers like the CRC.

In the future, Buchbinder says Virtue Salon hopes to expand the Come Together initiative across Columbus.

“Virtue Salon has a goal to grow this initiative to the degree in which every barber shop and salon in Columbus is involved and contributing to the Come Together collaboration as a community,” says Buchbinder. “We plan to shift the focus of our drive to fit the needs of the community, instead of collecting the same thing for the same organization every year.”
