City’s ‘Invest in US’ Bond Program Returns
Last year, the City of Columbus introduced “Invest in US,” a program that allows residents to earn tax-exempt income by buying into the city’s debt portfolio. This year that program returns, with an increase in the number of firms and new projects to be funded.
In an effort to eliminate barriers to investing, the program is set up so residents can buy bonds in denominations of $1,000 and $5,000 through brokerage firms like Huntington Capital Markets, Fifth Third Securities, Inc. and J.P. Morgan.
Residents looking to participate can contact their broker to get more information or receive help in making an informed investment decision. Residents can also invest with a different brokerage firm that can place an order through a firm participating in the bond sale.
Projects funded by the sale include: a Westside Early Education Center; water, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer improvements; neighborhood road resurfacing; neighborhood street lighting improvements; and park and playground improvements.
The bond sale is scheduled for next week, Oct. 2-3, 2019.
