City of Columbus Ends Contract with Redflex

A representative at the Office of Mayor Michael B. Coleman issued a release today notifying the public that the City of Columbus is officially terminating its contract with Redflex, the company that operated the red light traffic cameras in the city. The termination of the contract comes as a recommendation by City Attorney Rick Pfeffier.

“Based upon the City’s contract authority, we will be terminating the contract with Redflex immediately,” said Coleman. “I support a photo red light camera program because it saves lives, however the actions of the Redflex executives have raised questions about the integrity of their program.”

Former Redflex executive Karen Finley plead guilty to bribery charges in June, which has prompted an investigation in Columbus that includes questioning and document requests from elected officials including City Council President Andrew Ginther and Mayor Michael Coleman. The investigation is still ongoing.

The Columbus City Attorney’s office has stated that the contract with Redflex complied with all city codes.
