car2go Parent Company Acquires RideScout and mytaxi Apps
The parent company of the blue-and-white smart car carsharing service car2go announced today the acquisition of two popular ride-sharing related apps: mytaxi and RideScout. The former is a taxi booking service with 10 million users and 45,000 taxis in its network, and the latter is a leading mobility platform that launched less than a year ago, but provides users with access to over 350 transit systems and other public data for transit option comparisons.
“We are very pleased to welcome RideScout and mytaxi as new members of the moovel family”, reports Robert Henrich, CEO at moovel, car2go’s Germany-based parent company. “The acquisition of RideScout and Intelligent Apps pushes our global strategy a significant step forward. We are investing further in the development and growth of urban mobility in North America, Germany and other parts of the world.”
RideScout currently operates in 69 cities in North America, including Columbus where it aggregates travel data from nearby taxis, car2go vehicles, COTA bus routes and also compares travel times and costs with driving, biking, and walking. mytaxi on the other hand, is primarily Europe-based and only currently available in the US in Washington DC. That could be changing soon following today’s news.
“With moovel, a pioneer in the field of innovative mobility services, we now have the ideal partner for mytaxi and our team. We share the same visions and a burning passion for the issues of new and advanced mobility concepts”, explains Niclaus Mewes, CEO at mytaxi. “With moovel behind us, we are now an enormous step closer to realize our vision of becoming the biggest and best taxi app – not only in Europe, but around the world.”
