Cameron Mitchell opened his first restaurant twenty years ago. Since then, he has opened dozens more, and still operates eighteen restaurants in-state, including Cap City Diner & Bar, Cameron’s American Bistro, and most recently, The Pearl, which opened earlier this year in the Short North.

To commemorate such longevity, Cameron Mitchell Restaurants, will open their first “American Grille” concept in February 2014 at The Lane in Upper Arlington. A long-time resident of the small city, Mitchell is thrilled to be coming back home, restaurant-wise (He opened the still wildly popular Rusty Bucket Restaurant & Tavern, located at 1635 West Lane Avenue).

“This expansion is the perfect way to celebrate our anniversary, support our communities, and give back to Columbus,” Mitchell shares. “I was born and raised in upper Arlington, and the location is outstanding, so I’m really excited about this.”

The new eatery will focus on modernizing classic American cuisine, with a menu to include several Flatbreads, Steaks, Roasted Chicken, and Knife-and-Fork Sandwiches. In addition, they will showcase a 200-bottle wine selection, as well as artisan cocktails and craft beers.

The almost 6,00-square foot space on the ground floor of the Lane Retail-Residential-Office Project (which just began pre-leasing apartment units) will seat roughly 170, with another 30-40 seats on a terrace patio. The as-yet-unnamed project will feature an exhibition kitchen that should not only relax, but also entertain guests as they dine in comfortable leather booths.

As Lane Avenue expands, Mitchell hopes that this new restaurant will be an enduring fixture, a recognizable sign of the evolution of hometown and its environs.

“We’re going to continue to grow our relationship with Upper Arlington,” Mitchell asserts. “It’s a really exciting time with all the projects going on. We’re so close to other areas as well – Grandview and OSU – we want to build lasting links with those places as well.”
