A Harrison West address will once again serve the full spectrum of the daily beverage needs, from morning coffee to evening beer.
Cleveland-Based Saucy Brew Works is gearing up for the October opening of its brewpub and coffeehouse concept at 443 W. Third Ave., the former home of Caffe’ Apropos.
CEO and Co-owner Brent Zimmerman says the Columbus location has been a long time in the making. When Caffe’ Apropos closed in January 2018, it was announced that the location had been bought out and the new owners would be changing the name, concept, and interior.
“We have deep roots over multiple generations in Columbus and wanted to make our entrance perfect,” Zimmerman says. “We looked at dozens of opportunities in the area, and in Harrison West we fell in love within the first five minutes touring the building. It was a very unique opportunity that didn’t exist on the public market. We took control of the space within days of seeing it.”
Saucy Brew Works launched in 2017, and the Harrison West location will be the brewery’s third in the state and first in Columbus. The Columbus spot will pull influence from both Cleveland joints – the pizza-centric menu from the Cleveland Brewpub and the booze-coffeehouse combo from its Pinecrest Taproom.
Saucy Brew Works menu will feature New Haven-style Apizza, wings and more. Pizzas range from the classic – Margherita, Veggie Supreme – to the other-dishes-in-pizza-form, like the Nashville Hot Chicken or Chick N Waffle.
Imbibers can expect a variety of beers. Saucy Brew Works dabbles in everything from classic German and American beers, to experimental yeast and wild type beers. The brewery sports three core cans, Habituale, a Kölsch Style Golden Ale; IPA ASAP, an American India Pale Ale; and Love You, Bye, a Hazy Imperial IPA. Seasonal offerings include everything from a Christmas ale and German-style Oktoberfest, to stouts and fruit-flavored beers.
The caffeine is a new venture for Saucy Brew Works. The craft coffeehouse concept first launched in July 2020 at the Pinecrest Taproom in Orange, Ohio. The Coffee menu will include a single-origin house roast, pour overs, espresso, and a specialty menu inspired by Saucy beers such as What’s His Nuts, a vanilla stout with peanut butter and coffee, and Modern Crimes, a toasted coconut porter.
Saucy Brew Works has space for 190 guests across indoor and outdoor seating while adhering to coronavirus-compliant 6-ft table distancing. Curbside carryout will also be available. The space includes a small brewing operation as well.
