While the news unofficially leaked yesterday that BrewDog was coming to Columbus in a big way, the company made it official this morning with a big announcement.

The Scottish brewery has announced plans to further its international reach and take its craft beer revolution stateside. BrewDog has agreed to a deal to build a new 100,000 square foot state-of-the-art craft brewery in Columbus. Although an exact address has yet to be released, a local source close to the project confirmed that the new site will be located on Gender Road in Canal Winchester, not far from Rickenbacker International Airport.

“Columbus has got a fantastic beer scene already, and the people have always been so welcoming to us, so we felt it would be the perfect location for our stateside operation,” said BrewDog Co-Founder James Watt. “This is one of the most exciting projects we have ever embarked upon and we can’t wait to start brewing hardcore beer on both sides of the Atlantic.”

In addition to the 100-barrel brew house, the 42 acres of land will house BrewDog’s US offices, a visitor center, a craft beer restaurant and a taproom. The facilities will be accessible via road and bike path. BrewDog will be brewing its full line-up of beers, including their popular Punk IPA, Dead Pony Club and Jackhammer varieties. Small batch special brews exclusive to the US brewery will also be in production. The company cited beer freshness and minimal environmental impact as further convincing reasons to brew in the US.

BrewDog plans to employ over 100 people at the new site, as well as sending over Scottish ambassadors from its flagship Ellon, Aberdeenshire location.

“Since the dark days of prohibition, America’s epic brewers have led the craft beer charge and inspired a generation of UK craft brewers, not least ourselves,” said Watts. “We are thrilled to finally be setting up a BrewDog home in the Land of the Free, and become part of this craft beer epicentre.”

Funding for the project will be achieved through Equity for Punks USA, an American crowdfunding project which will launch later this year. Equity for Punks USA will give American beer fans the opportunity to invest in BrewDog USA Inc. Minimum individual shares across the pond go for €95. More details on the share offering will be announced in the next few months. BrewDog is additionally planning to launch five flagship bars in the country’s craft beer hubs; Florida, the Northeast, and the West coast are all on the short list thus far.
