A community meeting was hosted last night by members of the Near East Area Commission (NEAC) to review updated development plans for a mixed-use project slated for East Long Street. The presentation was given by representatives from Borror, which is co-developing the property along with Kingsley+Co of Cincinnati.
The project was first unveiled to the public in June, and last night’s update was the first showcase of some of the site finishes from the building designers at Architectural Alliance.
Few concerns were raised by the community with regard to design elements, but several community members expressed concerns over parking. Matt Canterbury, Senior VP of Design and Development at Borror, stated that surface parking hidden behind the buildings would be provided for residents, improved on-street parking access would serve retail businesses on Long Street, and an existing public parking lot next door with over 80 spaces would act as overflow during busier hours.
If constructed as planned, the 2.24-acre site at 818 E. Long St. (between Garfield Avenue and Monroe Avenue) would feature 130 market-rate apartments (mostly studios and one-bedroom units), 9,348 square feet of restaurant and retail space, and a 110-space surface parking lot. A portion of Talmadge Avenue would be closed to automobile access to allow for the creation of a pedestrian-only plaza in between two of the larger buildings.
Canterbury stated that they hope to continue through the approval processes over the next several months with a groundbreaking slated for late summer 2019, and completion planned for late 2020.
