Borror Announces New Six-Story Mixed-Use Building Downtown

With construction work officially wrapping up on their five-story apartment building at 303 S. Front St., the developers at Borror have switched gears to unveil their next Downtown project. The company announced that it plans to construct a six-story building at 265 E. State St. that will house five floors containing 220 apartment units above 15,000 square feet of ground-floor commercial space.

The property would be the second for the company in Downtown Columbus, and the first within the Discovery District area.

“We are excited about this foray into a new, exciting and growing part of our city,” stated Lori Steiner, President and COO of Borror. “Being next to Grant Medical Center and surrounded by a number of large offices makes this the perfect location to offer brand new apartments with great amenities to the people who work in this vibrant area of town.”

The larger footprint of the project was created by assembling four parcels of land that contain several smaller existing buildings that would require demolition. Those include two-story office buildings at 275 E. State St. and 271 E. State St., and two funeral home buildings and parking lots at 255 E. State St. and 229 E. State St.

If constructed as planned, the building would be the largest multifamily building to date for Borror, and just the latest in a wave of development for the Discovery District area. Other nearby properties currently under construction or recently completed include 223 E. Town, The View on Grant and The Neilston. There are additional large-scale plans from Motorists Insurance and the Columbus Metropolitan Library to redevelop Discovery District properties into new development.

The project will go in front of the Downtown Commission for review on Tuesday, November 21.
