    G. Michael’s Chef Finds New Gig

Since beloved German Village eatery G. Michael’s permanently closed its doors last month, Chef David Tetzloff has found his next endeavor.

Tetzloff will join Elevate Restaurants, which includes Barrel & Boar BBQ Gastropubs, Barrel & Boar BBQ Factory, and Barrel & Boar North Market, as the overseeing Market Chef.

“I’m excited to see how Chef Tetzloff can offer new training and guidance to our chefs. It is what the brand needs to continue its evolution and growth,” said Managing Partner Stan Riley. “I think it’s quite an upgrade to have him take him over the menu. I’m so excited to see what he can bring to the brand with the freedom to educate, coach, and guide our team.”

    G. Michael’s ended its 23-year run after the restaurant was unable to reach a new lease agreement with the building’s owners. Now, Tetzloff looks forward to building on what the restaurant group has already created.

“I’m excited to take the root and basis of BBQ and expand it into a wider and a different range that not only focuses on the smoked meats Barrel & Boar is known for, but see what else we can do with the overall concept of entrees,” Tetzloff says.

    Chapman’s Makes NYT’s America’s Favorite Restaurants List

German Village (relative) newcomer Chapman’s Eat Market is making big waves in the industry. The eatery was named one of the Top 50 Restaurants of 2021 according to the New York Times.

The list honors the “50 most vibrant and delicious restaurants in 2021,” and spans eateries from coast to coast. The only restaurant in Ohio to make the list, Chapman’s opened its doors in August 2020 in the middle of the pandemic cycling through various formats before moving to more traditional service in May 2021. The NYT article describes Chapman’s and Chef BJ Lieberman’s food as “deft, globally inspired comfort food.” (And don’t forget the house-made ice cream.)

Red Rabbit Ramen Taking Over Budd Dairy’s Hatch Space

Budd Dairy’s newest Hatch partner will make its debut next week. Taking over the rotating kitchen space is Red Rabbit Ramen.

The ramen joint initially made its debut in Columbus as a ghost kitchen, offering pick-up and delivery-only from the Columbus Food Hall on Essex Avenue.

The menu takes inspiration from ramen regions around the world and bases each bowl on made-from-scratch noodles. In addition to meat and veggie based ramens, Red Rabbit’s menu includes rice dishes as well as small plates like gyoza and edamame.

Red Rabbit will take over the space from Zaytoon Mediterranean Grill, which opened up shop on September 21. Zaytoon’s last day at Budd Dairy is October 24, with Red Rabbit Debuting on October 26 and serving eats through November 21.

In the sweets department, Cannoli Chips are back! The sweet treat offers crispy cannoli chips tossed in powdered sugar and served with chocolate chip cannoli cream.

    North Market(s) Welcome New Vendors

Three new vendors have made their debut at North Market – two in Dublin and one Downtown.

Serving as a triple threat of butcher, grocer and restaurant, Saddleberk opened at North Market Bridge Park in late September. Market-goers can find Saddleberk’s own Berkshire Pork and other high-quality cuts of meat, as well as fresh produce, market pantry items from local vendors and fresh-cut flowers.

Also joining the Bridge Park lineup is Hoyo’s Sambusas & Juices. Initially announced in October 2020, Hoyo’s is expanding from the North Market Downtown (and its restaurant in Columbus Square) with a streamlined menu of Somali eats, featuring its namesake items in a half-dozen plus different flavors.

Rounding out the new additions is Downtown vendor Tajine House. A quick-serve eatery from new Park Street Poultry Owners Alex Daray, Lotfi Khomsi and Mourad Bassou, the Moroccan-inspired menu features fish, veal, chicken, paella, meatballs and more, accompanied by a variety of traditional Moroccan sides like couscous and various veggies.

“For the three of us, we’re very excited to introduce Moroccan cuisine to Columbus,” Bassou says. “It’s a mixture of popular Mediterranean and European-French cuisine which we are proud to share.”

Dirty Frank’s Teams Up with Hollywood Casino

Dirty Frank’s is making a comeback on the Westside – this time inside Hollywood Casino. The eatery will bring its unique hot dog creations and wiener-loving humor to the space formerly occupied by Zen Noodle Bar.

Dirty Frank’s menu has a dog for every diner with beef, veggie and vegan options, as well as sides like onion rings, fries, tots and more.

Construction is underway with a planned opening in November 2021.

It’s the second local name to recently land a partnership with the casino. Mikey’s Late Night Slice opened inside the casino walls earlier this year.

“We take great pride in serving, engaging with, and giving back to our great city. Expanding to Hollywood Casino is the perfect opportunity to bring Dirty Frank’s back to the ‘Westside, Bestside’, which already has a very special place in our hearts,” said Miriam Ailabouni, co-owner of Dirty Frank’s. “And having our friends at Late Night Slice on the same floor comes full circle because we’ve been downtown neighbors for years. We truly cannot wait to start slingin’ wieners at Hollywood Casino!”

Dirty Frank’s has been sligin’ dogs Downtown since 2009 at 248 S. Fourth St.
