When Betty’s Fine Food & Spirits closed their doors at 680 North High Street, many local diners were upset about the loss of a neighborhood staple. Whatever was to replace it had some big shoes to fill, and based upon the response to this year’s readers survey, Brassica has stepped into that role quickly and admirably. Columbus Underground readers voted for this establishment as the best new restaurant to open this year, during a time when there was plenty of strong competition for that title. The concept at Brassica is a Mediterranean-influenced fast-casual setup with a focus on freshness. CU Food Critic Miriam Bowers Abbott praised Brassica’s meats and starches in her official review in November, while also claiming that “the thing that makes this place worth repeat visits is the vegetable selection”.
