Best Buy Closing 257 “Mobile” Locations, Including Tuttle Mall Store

According to a report filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Best Buy announced intentions to close all 257 of its “Best Buy Mobile” stores across the U.S., effective May 31.

The “Mobile” store format was originally launched in 2006 as a way to sell mobile phones and accessories in something smaller than their big box locations.

The company stated that the decision to close was due to the “changing economics in the mobile industry” as well as “the integration of its mobile model into its core stores and on-line channel, which are today more economically compelling”.

Only one Best Buy Mobile location can currently be found in Central Ohio, located inside the Mall at Tuttle Crossing.
