If you weren’t lucky enough to get tickets, take heart you can catch these dishes at each restaurant. To give you a leg-up in your brunch game, we still want to spotlight some of the delicious creations that will be featured at the event and the restaurants that will be serving them:
The vision for Salt & Pine arose from the desire to offer chef-driven food in a comfortable, beautiful setting in the growing Downtown Columbus community. That meant genuinely delicious food paired with amazing hospitality. It is the mission of Salt & Pine to serve you the most fresh and inventive cuisine possible. Having opened in late 2015, they offer the Downtown area a full-service restaurant, coffee/liquor bar, and grab-and-go store. At Best Bites: Brunch, they will be featuring a black bean cake topped with avocado crema, chicken tinga poblano, and queso oaxaca, garnished with radish and egg yolk bottarga. Katalina’s fittingly describes itself as “The Little Cafe with Lots of Local Goodness”. It is housed in a 100-year-old gas station, tucked away in Harrison West. Armed with energy, drive and flea market finds, Katalina’s owner Kathleen Day brought the place back to life with friends, neighbors, local suppliers — and of course food with attitude. Diners can enjoy the quaint seating inside or on warmer days the large outdoor patio. At Best Bites: Brunch, Katalina’s will be featuring their Famous Pancake Balls with various fillings and toppings. For more information, visit katalinascafe.com.
Located just south of Downtown, Copious and its below-ground music venue Notes are destinations where individuals and their friends come on a regular basis to dine, to have a drink and enjoy the best entertainment of all styles. Opened in the renovated historic McGowan Building, Copious reflects the diverse and welcoming spirit of Columbus. Through locally-sourced creations in the restaurant and the feel of a neighborhood bar/lounge, they hope to feed your soul in every way. At Best Bites: Brunch, they will be featuring buttermilk fried chicken thighs and cinnamon waffles with a benton’s bacon butter, finished with a local honey and fresno chili tabasco. The laid back atmosphere and and friendly staff are just an added bonus their guests can enjoy. At Taste of Belgium in the North Market, you will get just that: sweet, dense, sugary Belgian waffles and crepes cooked served in three minutes flat — just like the ones sold on the streets of Brussels. Each waffle is baked individually in a specialized cast iron press, just like they were centuries ago by master cooks in the city of Liège, Belgium. Unlike other waffles, they are made from thick dough and a coarse Belgian beet sugar that caramelizes inside the waffle iron. At Taste of Belgium, they take their waffle making very seriously with a family recipe that has been perfected and passed down generation by generation. At Best Bites: Brunch they will be serving up mini liege waffles topped with whipped cream and salty caramel sauce. For more information on Taste of Belgium visit authenticwaffle.com.
