On March 24th, Columbus Underground will be hosting Best Bites: Pizza — a celebration of the city’s best pizza shops, pizza food trucks, restaurants and more. A limited number of tickets are still available, so be sure to purchase yours online before they’re sold out. To get your tastebuds watering, we’ll be previewing what each of our participating pizza makers will be showcasing at the event:
While memories of Sbarro might make you think of mall food court pizza, the company has been going through some major changes in the past several years. Sbarro relocated their headquarters to Columbus in 2014 (just like White Castle did in 1936) and has begun utilizing the city as a test market for new concepts. Their fast casual Pizza Cucinova was opened in 2014, and revamped stand-alone Sbarro locations followed suit in 2015 with new stores in Dublin, Worthington, Clintonville and the University District.
At Best Bites: Pizza, Sbarro will showcasing two pizzas from its new menu. The first is their four-Cheese Pizza, featuring romano, mozzarella, asiago and ricotta on an asiago garlic herb crust. The second is their X-TREME Pepperoni Pizza, featuring two kinds of pepperoni and two cheeses — mozzarella and pepperjack.

Advance tickets to Best Bites: Pizza are $30, which includes unlimited pizza samples, dessert featuring Patron XO Cafe chocolate and coffee liqueurs over ice cream, and a cash bar featuring Pacifico Clara beer, in addition to wine and a specialty cocktail. Tickets are expected to sell out. As always, attendees will also be able to cast their vote for their favorite pizza of the night, and the winner will be recognized on Columbus Underground as the Best Pizza of 2016!
Participating pizza makers include Bexley Pizza Plus, Mikey’s Late Night Slice, Borgata Pizza Cafe, Due Amici, Mama Mimi’s, Dewey’s Pizza, OH Pizza and Brew, Halwani Cuisine, Sbarro, Uno Pizzeria & Grill and more to be announced in the coming weeks!
A portion of the proceeds from all ticket sales will be donated to Neighborhood Services, Inc., a local charity that works to alleviate poverty and provide food services here in Columbus. The Columbus Underground Best Bites event series have collectively raised over $10,000 for local charities since August 2014.
