Best Bites Preview: Pies, Beignets, Cakes, Marshmallows & More
The week we have all been waiting for is here! Best Bites: Sweet Treats is s0 close I can almost taste all the sugary goodness coming our way! If you don’t have your tickets yet – act fast! For one night only Columbus Underground is giving you a chance to taste treats from 27 different makers around the city. To get your tastebuds watering, we are bringing you a preview of our featured vendors before the event on this Thursday! Check out some of the delicious treats that will all under one roof:
Dough Mama is the result of the belief that the love and care we put into our food is actually a delicious way to share love and care with others. Owner and founder, Perrie Wilkof, brought that love and care to Columbus after much training and practice in New York City. The delicious treats at their storefront include unique indulgences like Maple Bourbon Pecan Pie, Salted Butterscotch Pie and their featured treat for Best Bites: Sweet Treats gluten free Lemon Lavender Blueberry Cake.
Early Bird Food Truck owner, Libby Glover, pursued creating a local bakery that provided classic desserts made in a new fresh way. In 2013, she created Four and Twenty Blackbird Bake Shop as micro bakery that infused classic techniques and fresh innovation to make flavorful small batch desserts. The Early Bird is the official food truck for Four and Twenty Blackbird Bake Shop! They serve French Quarter inspired beignets and coffee daily and will be bringing that fried dough goodness for you to sample at Best Bites: Sweet Treats!
Positively Sweet LLC is a local community devoted bakery. The specialize in quality products and exceptional customer service will bring you back every time. Currently they offer a variety of cookies, brownies and cupcakes for order. If you are looking for a unique item, Positively Sweet LLC can create cakes, pie or other bakery goods for you. At Best Bites: Sweet Treats they will be featuring a Lemon Cupcake with Raspberry Frosting topped with a Fresh Raspberry
MMELO‘s treats look as good as they taste. Each of their sweets is crafted like a small work of art with no detailed ignored. At their downtown cafe you can find chocolates with flourishes of bright colors and marshmallows perfectly dipped in chocolate and stacked to look like perfection. On top of that all MMELO’s recipes are developed and designed around flavor and have a “no junk” policy: nothing refined, no unhealthy fats – just whole foods meticulously chosen for their blessed contribution to making food taste good! You can taste one of their unique treats, meringue cookies, at Best Bites: Sweet Treats.
Short North Piece of Cake is a Short North staple. Opening in 1998, they have been serving up specialty cakes and daily treats for almost two decades. With a mission to share their love for delicious food they offer exceptional customer service to create a memorable experience for each customer. Customers craving a mid day sweet can visit their store front daily for a mix of treats or their items can be ordered for special occasions. The design handcrafted cakes for weddings and events too! At Best Bites: Sweet Treats, Short North Piece of Cake will be showcasing a Chocolate Truffle Cake with strawberry jam, balsamic mousse and chocolate glaze.
Torlitas was inspired by two of life’s greatest things: Love and chocolate. The perfect combination, and one that led entrepreneur Tamela Walker to create Torlitas embellished tortilla chips. Inspired by a dream, Walker embarked upon a culinary journey to combine the crunchy saltiness of a tortilla chip with the luscious sweetness of chocolate, resulting in Torlitas, a truly decadent treat. She experimented with several different combinations for the confections and shared her first creations with family, friends and coworkers, who declared that Torlitas were “love at first bite.” Now you will get the chance to sample one Torlitas signature treats, the blondie, at Best Bites: Sweet Treats.
The third edition of Best Bites: Sweet Treats will be held on Thursday, February 23 from 7 p.m. – 10 p.m. at the Columbus Athenaeum. This year’s event will feature additional space and activities for new and returning guests to enjoy! Tickets to the event are on sale now! Entrance to the event includes samples of each featured sweet treat, live entertainment and a cash bar featuring Modelo Negra, St. Brendan’s Irish Cream and Meier’s Wine.
All participating treat makers include Three Kids and a Kitchen, MMELO, J-Pops Gourmet Ice Pops, Rime Time Curiously Crafted Pops, Velvet Ice Cream, Early Bird Food Truck, Elena’s Specialty Cakes, Mrs. Turbo’s Cookies, Lopaus Point, Winans Chocolates + Coffees, Bailey’s Drive Inn Donuts, Dough Mama,Short North Piece of Cake, Nellie’s Natural Ice Pops, Two Little Buckeyes, Fantasy Cupcake, Positively Sweet, LLC, Torlitas, Handel’s Ice Cream, The Guild House, Nothing Bundt Cakes,Coco Cat Bakery & Chocolates, Firebirds Wood Fired Grill, Pouf Cotton Candy, Donna’s Gourmet Cookies and Jeni’s Ice Cream.
A portion of the proceeds from all ticket sales will be donated to the The Columbus Foundation’s Gifts of Kindness Fund, a community-focused fund that helps Central Ohio families with emergency needs. The Columbus Underground Best Bites events have helped to raise over $16,000 for local charities in 2016!
