Clintonville-based Pattycake Bakery has gained steady popularity over the past decade, garnering praise from the city’s expanding vegan community with their 100% dairy and egg-free cookies, cupcakes, brownies, muffins, and granola. Owner Jennie Scheinbach’s love of baking began when she was a kid. When Scheinbach converted to veganism in 2003, she began craving sweets, and noticed that Columbus was lacking a vegan bakery. She started experimenting and baking her own vegan-friendly treats, eventually making the move to sell at the Clintonville Community Market. Business proved successful, and Pattycake set up shop at 3009 N. High Street in 2005.
Pattycake will be serving banana whoopie pies with caramel cream filling at our Best Bites: Sweet Treats event tonight. Two soft banana cookies made with organic fruit and whole grains are filled with rich Dulce de Leche marshmallow cream, then rolled in salty, roasted peanuts for a sweet and salty treat. This is a new variation of Pattycake’s signature whoopie pies, whose other flavors include peppermint, double-chocolate, and pumpkin spice.
Will Pattycake’s new whoopie pie flavor woo your winning vote? Decide for yourself at CU’s Best Bites: Sweet Treats event, tonight!
