Bexley-based Cherbourg Bakery opened their French doors in 2011, catering to the gluten-free and nut-averse community. Owner Geri Peacock christened the bakery after Cherbourg, France, a European port town where she has family history. Their pastries are 100% gluten, wheat, and nut-free, and locally sourced as much as possible. Their 541 S. Drexel Avenue store is home base, with additional products being sold at Whole Foods, Weilands Market, and One Line Coffee, among others. They’ll be offering up three different treats to sample at CU’s Best Bites: Sweet Treats event on Tuesday, February 17th.
On their classic best-selling Double Lemon Bar, a zesty lemon center sits atop a buttery shortbread base, topped with powdered sugar. The Zucchini Twinkie is a moderately healthier twist on the Hostess favorite, with sweet cream cheese frosting enveloped by moist, baked zucchini cake. Last but not least, their Tiramisu Donut is a baked bar donut swirled through with mascarpone and cinnamon, glazed with a combination of mocha and espresso, perfect for an midday Italian pick-me-up.
Will Cherbourg’s baked goodies win your heart (and votes)? Decide for yourself at CU’s Best Bites:Sweet Treats event on February 17th.
