On Monday, Basil Thai will be the newest addition to the Brewery District, taking over the space at 460 South Front Street, which housed a rotating mix of restaurants over the past year including Frezno Bar & Grill, Front Street Bar & Grill, and Lola’s Backdoor Cantina. Those who remember the Brewery District of the 1990s, probably knows the space best as Hagen’s Ale & Tee, and those who know Basil Thai from the Short North will be pleased to know that the new restaurant will primarily be a replication rather than a deviation.

“We’ll have the same menu for now, but we’re planning to add bar food to complement the space,” said owner Rhome Ruanphae. “We’ll be open seven days a week from 11am to 10pm and the bar will be open late on Friday and Saturday nights.”

Ruanphae says that he plans to open the patio once the weather gets warmer, but for now will be focusing on the smaller bar space. The new Brewery District Basil Thai will include specials similar to what can be found in the Short North, including happy hour from 4pm to 7pm with $4 small plates, $4 glasses of wine and select $2 draft beers.

“We have been looking for a space for a long time and this space was a great fit for us — we have room to grow into,” said Ruanphae. “The patio will be new for us and we will eventually have a large event space where we can host larger events that we couldn’t do in the Short North location without hurting normal weekend traffic.”

Basil Thai opens to the public on Monday, March 30th.
