Just over a year after their March 2014 opening Downtown, New York-based gourmet burger joint Bareburger will be welcoming a second location in northern Clintonville.
Franchise operators George Mathew and Ben Christopher signed a lease on 4560 North High Street last week. The current building, a former doctor’s office, will be rebuilt from the ground up, with demolition beginning August 1. The building will be a three-story standalone structure. Bareburger will occupy the first story, while apartment buildings will take up the top two floors. The restaurant is slated to open by June 2016. Bareburger has expanded aggressively since its 2009 start, opening dozens of franchises in New York, Ohio, Philadelphia, Toronto, New Jersey, and Connecticut.
A bigger bar and outdoor seating were main goals for the new restaurant. The 3,900 square foot restaurant will seat 11o, while the spacious new 800 square foot patio will seat 80 more. Community tables and picnic tables will make the patio perfect for grabbing a beer and mingling. Bareburger’s frontage will consist of large garage doors, rolled up or down according to weather. The bar will be a major focal point, carrying 16 local and craft beers on tap. An estimated 65 parking spots will be available. The new store will keep the urban Bareburger concept, but adopt a design unique to Clintonville for a more localized feel. As for the menu, their commitment to environmentally-friendly food will remain the same.
“There will probably be some tweaks to the menu, but nothing crazy,” said Mathew. “Organic is still our number one focus, and local when possible.”
The move to Clintonville was prompted by the search for a new, neighborhood-focused feel. The Downtown location brings a good number of customers from the Greater Columbus Convention Center and nearby hotels. While the transient crowd has been great for business, the move to a neighborhood was the next natural step.
“We’re really excited to be in Clintonville,” said Mathew. “We love the neighborhood vibe, and wanted to put our next restaurant next to a community that would support what we’re doing. The neighboorhood is getting better and better all the time, and we want to embrace that.”
Bareburger also recently launched delivery service from their current Downtown location. Coming from the delivery-devout culture of New York City, where Seamless is a staple, the owners saw a gap in the Columbus delivery culture they could fill. The delivery service offers a 15% off promo for the remainder of the month. Check out Bareburger’s delivery zones and order online here. The new location will also offer delivery.
