Balanced Yoga Opens in German Village

Balanced Yoga’s German Village branch is open! Located at the corner of Thurman and Jaeger, the lovely brick building and surprisingly generous parking lot are ready to give south side residents and Balanced Yoga fans a great new place for yoga.

“There were lots of unexpected surprises in this location,” noted Leah Westwater, owner of Balanced Yoga. “We wanted to partner with Fox in the Snow and Native, so there were lots of considerations such as a new power supply for a restaurant kitchen. Just all those things to work out with construction, especially in an old building like this.”

From the exposed brickwork to the cozy fireplace, everything gives a warm, harmonious feel to the German Village branch of Balanced Yoga. Westwater came up with lots of thoughtful details for the new space including a sculptural set of brackets to hold yoga blocks so they can dry out after their regular cleanings and the hot yoga classes. The studio has both east and west facing windows and the wooden flooring feels quite comfy underfoot. The cold-pressed juice company, Native, also shares the building and parking lot. Native is offering 15 percent off smoothies and juices to customers who come over from Balanced after class this first week.

Popular Balanced Yoga classes such as Baptiste Power Vinyasa yoga, Easy Like Sunday, and a variety of yin yoga classes begin today, Thursday, December 14. Experienced yoga teachers such as Andy King, Colleen McFall, and Toni Kervina are among regular Balanced Yoga teachers on the roster as well as classes taught by Leah and Brian Westwater. Also coming to the German Village location is a special guest teacher: Cleveland Yoga’s Parker Bean.

“Parker brings an incredible depth of presence to her teaching,” said Cleveland Yoga-trained Greg Fisher. “She had a profound effect at Cleveland Yoga. She is someone I trust, and that is important to me when I choose someone to call a teacher.”

Besides yoga classes, there will be events for charity including fundraisers for the GIVE Yoga Fund and the Yoga Youth Project. Westwater is passionate about bringing the benefits of yoga to people regardless of socioeconomic circumstances. Earlier this year, GIVE Yoga raised money for the Africa Yoga Project, and there is still time for tax-deductible donations to GIVE Yoga this year.

Classes at Balanced Yoga in German Village are available for sign up on MindBody or through the Balanced Yoga app. Off-street parking is behind the building. Opening week specials include 15 percent off class packages and new memberships. Both the new Balanced Yoga studio at 1120 Jaeger St. and the original Balanced Yoga at 3520 N. Hight St. in Clintonville will be open Christmas and New Year’s Eve.
