Hard to believe, but summer is winding down and that means most schools will be back in session soon. Columbus City Schools on the traditional schedule go back on Wednesday, August 26, 2015. Columbus Underground has run a supply drive for several years and your generosity has helped hundreds of children go back to school with the supplies they need for a successful year.
This year, we are once again collecting donations and will be supporting the efforts of S.W.A.T. – So We All Thrive. S.W.A.T. collects basic school supplies: glue sticks, pencils, crayons, markers, erasers, notebooks, and plastic folders, and gets them into the Columbus City Schools that need them most. More information on S.W.A.T. Full disclosure: Our food reviewer Miriam Bowers Abbott is involved with S.W.A.T.
New this year, take advantage of the sales tax-free holiday starting on Friday, August 7, 2015 at 12:01 a.m. and ending on Sunday, August 9, 2015 at 11:59 p.m to save on your school supplies! School supplies priced at $20 per item or less qualify for this special tax-free holiday.
PLUS! On Thursday, August 6th, Barrel (4pm-2a) and Toos (9pm-2am) have generously offered to help raise funds to support Columbus Underground’s school supply drive! Barrel and Toos will be donating 20% of all profits during that evening toward the purchase of school supplies. Barrel is located at 1120 North High Street. Toos is located at 1880 N. High Street.
Supplies can be dropped off at our offices at 14 E. Gay St., Floor 5, Columbus, OH 43215, Monday through Friday, 9am-5pm. We will also collect donations during the Best Bites Tacos event on Thursday, August 20th at Huntington Park. Please contact me at [email protected] to make other drop off arrangements.
Please note: This is a collection drive only, we will not be distributing items and S.W.A.T. donates directly to schools. Please contact Volunteers of America’s Operation Backpack or Neighborhood Services Inc, if you are an individual needing supplies.
Thank you for your generosity!
