At Work: Sparkspace’s Inspiring Business Retreat

For this month’s At Work column on TheMetropreneur, I spoke with Mark Henson, the chief imagination officer of Sparkspace in the Arena District. In 2000, he developed the idea of building a company around a business retreat center model while working for the design firm Fitch. He started Sparkspace in a 900 square foot space in the Short North and now has grown it to 7,500 square feet in an old paint factory space in the Arena District. One of the relics from the paint factory remains and has become a focal point for one of the retreat rooms. Mark was drawn to the space because it really transports you through time. It was built in the 1890s and then had several additions that show the materials used at the time. Registration is $89.
