It has been announced that the Columbus Arts Festival has been canceled for 2021.
In a statement released by the Greater Columbus Arts Council, organizer of the festival, the organization noted there is “too much uncertainty” in terms of the pandemic and hosting events.
Though acknowledging a decrease in new cases and hospitalizations, new variants and a slow start to vaccine distribution has played a part in this decision, they said.
“Given the logistics and work involved in producing the Columbus Arts Festival, we had to make a decision sooner rather than later,” read the statement. “Please know that we have discussed and investigated other options—from moving the date to scaling down.
“We cannot easily pick up and move literally or figuratively. We must put the health and safety of our patrons, artists, performers, vendors and sponsors first.”
Artists who have held a spot at the festival for 2021 will be refunded their fees.
The festival has set a date for 2022 — June 10 through 12. The festival is also moving from the Downtown Riverfront to the Arena District, in response to construction on the Scioto Peninsula.
