The Art for Life charity auction is on track to set a new fundraising record of $1 million for Equitas Health, a local nonprofit healthcare system specializing in HIV care and LGBTQ health in the regional area.
Founded in 1989, Art for Life is an art auction that takes place every two years and has helped raise more than $4 million in support of Equitas Health’s services, which include primary care, specialized HIV care, specialized LGBTQ healthcare, HIV social services, behavioral health, prevention (including Safe Point – Columbus’ only syringe exchange program), dental, and advocacy services. All of Equitas Health’s services are offered on a sliding fee scale, ensuring access to the most needy populations.
More than 1,200 individuals gathered for the event, which took place Saturday, September 15 at the Columbus Museum of Art. The silent auctions featured artwork by 96 local and internationally acclaimed artists, represented by 19 galleries. All of the artwork was donated by private collectors, galleries, and the artists themselves.
Purchases for the evening included two Keith Haring prints for $100,000, and a Joan Miro lithograph for $50,000 that was immediately gifted to the Columbus Museum of Art for its permanent collection.
“Art for Life continues to be a one-of-a-kind event in our community. I am thrilled to have played a part in highlighting the talent of local artists while raising funds for Equitas Health’s important mission,” said Janelle Coleman, president of the L Brands Foundation and chair of this year’s Art for Life event.
“The generosity of the Columbus community never ceases to amaze me,” said Bill Hardy, president and CEO of Equitas Health. “When you are mission obsessed like we are, it is an incredibly powerful affirmation to witness such an outpouring of support. We are deeply grateful.”
