    AmyD Launches New Collection

Meeting Amy Dalrymple is like jumping into a very cold pool. She will refresh the heck out of you. Her playful blend of sass and style has catapulted her Made by AmyD clothing line into a full-scale operation. This Friday night, she’ll unveil a new collection of capes, vests, skirts, dresses, and aprons at a fashion show during Wholly Craft’s fifth anniversary party.

Amy grew up in Amanda, Ohio amongst crafty surroundings. “Some families grow up playing music. Mine made crafts,” she said. She moved to Columbus in 1988 and attended OSU “for about 30 seconds.” After having her third child, she wanted to buy new clothes but hated shopping and the serious world of high fashion. “All of the stuff that I saw was cheap, slutty, and stupid,” she said. “So I decided to start sewing.” And in February of 2005, she launched Made by AmyD. Thanks to her trademark frisky aprons and recent partnership with Whole Foods, she’s now able to support herself entirely through her business. “It was a hobby that, over the past year, exploded,” she said.

Friday night’s fashion show marks Amy’s first cohesive collection. “I’ve been making clothes for five years and have participated in group shows, but this is the first time that I’ll have a show with all of my own stuff,” she said. Her easy, feminine creations celebrate women who exercise individuality and practicality. “Most of the women I know mow the lawn and then dig a snake out of a cistern, or shovel snow and go straight to work. It’s Ohio — you have to do these kinds of things.”

Amy is proud of her stiletto-free philosophy. “I don’t read Vogue,” she said. “But what I make will fit you really well and will look really good on you.”

Wholly Craft’s 5th Anniversary Extravaganza will be held this Friday evening from 7:00 to 11:00. Amy’s fashion show begins at 9:00 and will be modeled by The Ohio Rollergirls, with hair and makeup by Lucky 13 Hair Salon. The event will also feature Stinkybomb Soap door prizes, a live performance by Bird and Flower, and T-shirt screen printing by THOUGHTco. All items in the store, including those by AmyD, will be 20% off. Visit madebyamyd.com and whollycraft.net for more information.
