Amphitheater Among Items Approved by Downtown Commission

Yesterday’s Downtown Commission meeting featured a presentation on new parking rules and a proposed parking benefit district that could fund transit initiatives.

There were several other items on the agenda:

An updated plan for an outdoor amphitheater at the Reach on Goodale was approved, as was signage for a new apartment building on East Main Street known as The Harlow.

The landscape wall around the sloped greenspace that will make up the amphitheater will feature different materials that have been used on White Castle restaurants through the years. The new facility will be built on the site of the former White Castle office building, which was recently demolished, and will sit next to the new, recently-opened headquarters.

A proposal for a three-story building on a small parcel at the corner of Third and Lafayette streets (next to the Firestone tire shop) got a conceptual review, and will likely be brought back to a future meeting for approval.

Finally, Lifestyle Communities was back in front of the commission for more discussion of discrepancies on several of their buildings between the approved plans and what was built. The developer received approval to proceed with several of the fixes agreed upon in November, but will still need to return with an updated lighting plan for The Matan building.
