Actors’ Theatre of Columbus Cancels 2020 Season

The Actors’ Theatre of Columbus announced on Thursday, April 30 that it would be canceling its 2020 “Royals” themed season due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The difficult decision was made with the health of staff, actors and audience in mind, said the company in a statement.

“ATC cannot project right now what restrictions will continue on public gatherings throughout the summer, and so it must suspend its season,” said the company.

The 2020 season was set to begin on June 18.

“The past few months have been full of uncertainty and grief, and we have all had our lives interrupted by burdens none could foresee just six months ago,” said Artistic Director Philip Hickman. “Our purpose is to ensure that Actors’ Theatre continues to entertain the thousands of people who come to Schiller Park every summer to share in our community. In order to keep to that purpose, we have come to this heart-breaking but necessary decision.”

Among its virtual events, ATC currently hosts The Shakespeare Underground virtual shows on Monday nights with audiences having the opportunity to give “Pay What You Will” donations.
