For the fourth year, Columbus Acro Play has organized AcrOhio, an acro yoga festival held during Labor Day weekend. Acro yoga teachers and aficionados will have a three-day weekend to enjoy the acro they know and learn some new moves from expert teachers.
Acro yoga is a combination of dance, acrobatic and yoga moves that has become increasingly popular. Columbus Acro Play’s Jarred Keener has organized local acro events for over five years through their Facebook page with his partner Leigh Cordetti.
“It keeps growing every year,” noted Keener during this year’s Arnold Classic where he and Cordetti presented several acro yoga demonstrations and workshops. “Over 150 people came to Columbus for AcrOhio last year.”
This year, there will be more instructors and workshop times as well as time for socializing. There will also be lots of photo ops.
“Your Instagram account will explode with acro yoga!” says Keener.
This year, nationally known and popular instructors such as Christina Baez (on Instagram as acrogymprincess) and Micah and Monica Hart of hart2hartacro will be among the over 20 teachers giving workshops. There will also be featured acrobatic performers such as ClubSandwich. A full list of the exciting instructors is on the website.
Keener and Cordetti are also excited that Columbus Acro Play has a home at Rock Solid Gymnastics & Cheer Academy. For years, Columbus Acro Play organized “acro jams” in parks and other pop-up spaces, but now they have a steady place for indoor work.
AcrOhio runs Friday thru Sunday Labor Day weekend, August 30 – September 1 at the Rock Solid Gymnastics & Cheer Academy, 2299 Cardigan Ave.
