2018

In 2018, Columbus Underground won five Ohio Journalism Awards from the Cincinnati, Cleveland and Columbus chapters of the Society of Professional Journalists.

2017

In 2017, Columbus Underground was recognized with three first place awards and one second place award from the Ohio's Best Journalism awards presented by the Society of Professional Journalists. That year’s contest was judged by members of The Long Island Press Club, who had the following to say about CU: “Hands-down winner. This local news site has it all and does it well.” The four awards that year included:

Additionally in 2017, writer Lauren Sega was recognized at the 4th annual "Covering the Story" awards, hosted by Community Shares of Mid Ohio. Lauren was recognized for the following story on the topic of mental health:

2016

The first year that Columbus Underground submitted work for consideration in the Ohio's Best Journalism awards presented by the Society of Professional Journalists, it received seven first and second place award recognitions. Those included:

2015

Columbus Underground co-founder Walker Evans was the recipient of a journalism award at the 2nd annual "Covering the Story" event in 2015, hosted by Community Shares of Mid Ohio. His award was received for an eight-part series of interviews during "The Big Give" philanthropic event, hosted by The Columbus Foundation.

2014

In 2014, CU writer Brent Warren received the "Trending Now" award at the first annual "Covering the Story" event, hosted by Community Shares of Mid Ohio. His award was received for reporting on local business trends in the following article:
