In celebration of its inaugural year, the Center for HumanKindness invites you to take a look back at some of the most exciting kindness trends to emerge in 2021:

    Defining kindness.

You know it when you experience it, but defining kindnessā€”the gritty, transformative kindness we’re interested inā€”isn’t easy. The Center for HumanKindness defines it as an intentional commitment to honoring one another’s humanity. From Lady Gaga to psychologist Adam Grant, global community engagement around showing kindness as strength is encouraging!

    A strong case for kindness.

According to the BBC, kindness-related research papers increased from 35 in the 1980s to more than 1,000 in the last 10 years. The benefits from giving and receiving kindness have been endorsed by pediatricians, business leaders, editorial boards, parenting experts, psychologists, and filmmakers. Accessible to all in an endless supply, kindness is for everyone!

    Kindness is all around us.

Some days it seems like grim or divisive news dominates our lives and the headlines. But if you look for it, kindness is all around us. From the nonprofit sector to the everyday heroes in our community, so many people of all ages are committed to fostering a sense of belonging and flourishing in our communities.

If you’re seeking more reminders of everyday kindness, check out The Columbus Dispatch’s The Good Life, sign up for the Washington Post’s free newsletter called The Optimist, and follow the Center for HumanKindness on social media.
