5 Stops for Gallery Hop – October 2011

Hard to believe it’s already October, but it tonight’s Gallery Hop has plenty in store to make it worthwhile. There’s quite a few great art exhibitions (several of which are highlighted below) in addition to all of the usual bar hopping, dining, people watching and shopping that you’re used to. Below are our 5 recommended “must see” adventures planned for this evening:

    1. The Relighting of The Garden Theater Sign

The Short North Stage theatre company is working toward reopening the Garden Theater as a performance arts venue in 2012, and tonight they’re one step closer to that goal. The large sign on the exterior of the building has been out of commission for decades, but the group has recently had it restored, and they’ll be turning the lights back on during a ceremony that takes place at 9pm. 2. Group Exhibition Opening at Rivet Gallery

A trio of local artists are being featured in a group exhibition at Rivet art gallery & design toy shop, located at 1200 North High Street. Work from Clinton Reno, Graham Erwin and Ryan Brinkerhoff will be on display starting tonight. The opening reception takes place from 7pm to 10pm.

    3. Spectacle at Image Optical

New work from local artist Coreroc will be opening tonight at Image Optical, located at 846 N. High Street. This show features original art made using photographs of locals in glasses. The opening reception takes place from 7pm to 10pm.

    4. The Local Bar Celebrates Grand Opening

If you’ve always wanted a hippy-esque 70s-themed bar, then you’ve officially found your new favorite drinking establishment. The Local Bar opened quietly a few weeks ago in the former Kickstart Scooters location at 913 North High Street, but they’re celebrating their grand opening during Gallery Hop tonight.

    5. Oxygen Auction by The Digital Immigrants

Local art collective The Digital Immigrants are producing a unique show where five WWII-era aircraft oxygen tanks have been redesigned and will be on display at the Voodoo Denim Lounge, located at 780 N. High Street. The pieces will be auctioned off online at www.diauction.com over the next two months (starting tonight at midnight) and half the proceeds will benefit the Wounded Warrior Project.

What else are you looking forward to at Gallery Hop tonight?
