Despite the fact that they love us, support us, listen to our whining and, in several cases, still do our laundry, we wait for that one day in the Spring to tell our mothers just how much they mean to us. This year, Mother’s Day is May 12, and for all that she does, the least you can do is splurge a little on the one woman who’ll love you no matter what. Here are some of the choice places around town to impress mom:

Smith & Wollensky Steakhouse

This year, spoil her a little – or a lot – by taking her to Smith & Wollensky Steakhouse in Easton Town Center, across from the mall’s central fountain. The restaurant is particularly good for special occasions like Mother’s Day, when a spring menu featuring seasonal seafood selections, premium steak cuts and spring 3-Wine Flights. Plus, if the weather happens to be fair, patio seating could provide a beautiful setting for the mother-figure in your life.

The Refectory

If you want to give your mother a dining experience she will not soon forget, then take her to The Refectory. Chef Richard Blondin will offer an abbreviated spring dinner menu featuring hors d’oeuvres, soups and salads, entrees and desserts that promise to bring smiles and very satisfied sighs. Diners can choose from seafood, premium steak cuts and duck, as well as a variety of tarts and sorbets for dessert.

La Scala

There are few mothers and grandmothers in this world as nurturing and eager-to-feed as the Italians. This Mother’s Day, return the favor by taking your special lady to La Scala, the family-owned jewel in Dublin who’s been serving Central Ohio for over forty years. They serve a brunch menu from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. that includes a prime rib carving station, lasagna, an assortment of cheeses, desserts and salads, plus traditional brunch menu items like scrambled eggs and bacon.

For many, a trip to historic German Village would not be complete without a stop at Lindey’s, whether for lunch, drinks on their amazing patio, or a special occasion dinner in one of their many banquet rooms. For Mother’s Day, Lindey’s will take full advantage of their space, offering concurrent dining options with their upstairs buffet menu and downstairs brunch and a la carte menus. Celebrate with mom at Grandview Heights Italian restaurant Trattoria Roma, which recently began their “Bubbles ‘n’ Brunch” Mother’s Day event. Moms enjoy a glass of wine on arrival, plus a seasonally inspired salad, soup, and Italian entrees. Finish the meal out with a variety of indulgent desserts, including chocolate ice cream.

Even though we shouldn’t wait ’til the second Sunday in May to show the mothers in our lives just how much we appreciate everything they do and sacrifice for us, it is nice to have a day where it is all about her: our mother, who have always, and will always, cherish us, no matter our wrongs, rights, shortcomings, and blessings.
