41-Year-Old Mama’s Pasta and Brew to Close in November
Though it didn’t come as a surprise, many were disappointed yesterday, when Mama’s Pasta & Brew announced that they’d close their doors on November 30. Located at 23 Campus Pl., the restaurant has changed names and hands many times over the years, and was purchased by Campus Partners affiliate Redstone Realty Company, LLC for redevelopment. That build-out is said to begin in mid-December.
“There are a lot of people, memories, and Buckeye traditions that make Mama’s the campus tradition it has been since 1977. Thank you to all of our customers, but most of all our loyal regulars and Hall of Famers who make Mama’s the special place it is,” Mama’s Pasta & Brew posted on Facebook. “Please come and share one last drink, some food, a game of darts, a kiss to the Moose, or even just a conversation with us before the doors close forever. Tell us your favorite stories.”
Mama’s Pasta & Brew first opened in 1977 under Gene Szaronas. Terry Fahy, the restaurant’s most recent owner, bought it from Pat Hitesman in 1983, establishing the business many know today. Serving up pizza, pasta, salads and sub, Mama’s is also known for hosting competitive annual dart leagues over the last 30 years. Placing a heavy emphasis on their regulars, Mama’s also has a “Hall of Fame,” where patrons who’ve racked up the most face time with the staff can find their names.
The restaurant’s official last day of business is Friday, November 30.
