As the saying goes, “Do what you love, and you’ll never work another day in your life.” If you don’t think you can pursue your dreams and get paid for it, think again. Where there’s a will, there’s a way. And if you want to turn your passion into a paycheck, now is the time to do it. But how do you go about making your dream a reality that you can actually profit from? Here are four easy steps that will allow you to do what you love and get paid for it.

1. Show and Share. Start by talking about what you know and what you can do. Talk to anyone who will listen including friends, family, and your current networks. Don’t be afraid to share your passion with the world! After all, people won’t know what you can do until you show them. Offer your talents to friends and family or post them on your social media accounts. If you want to become a personal trainer, start sharing photos of your favorite workouts or take a video of yourself doing a fitness routine for everyone to see. Want to work in fashion? Start styling outfits and post them to your Instagram profile. Make sure you use appropriate hashtags and follow the right audience that will gain your social media accounts the traction it needs to be successful.

2. Be Credible. If your passion requires additional training or certification, then take the time to do it. You want to make sure that you become a credible resource, expert, and thought leader in your desired field. Knowledge and experience will go a long way in helping you profit from your passion.

3. Know Your Worth. While you may struggle to get paid in the beginning, working for free or for a discount to gain experience is priceless; and trust me, it will pay off in the long run. By doing this, you will gain the confidence and knowledge to charge for your services later on. When you do feel comfortable charging for your passion, don’t settle for less. Be realistic on what you offer, what’s unique to you, and what you can give.

4. Seek Support and Ask for Help. You have big dreams and you need to surround yourself with people who appreciate and respect you for it. Stay away from those who smirk and say, “That’s never going to work.” Encouragement is the best gift when starting a new venture. Also, don’t be afraid to ask for help. Not sure where to start or if your dream is even realistic? Find a coach or mentor to discuss your goals and expectations with so they can help steer you in the right direction.
