On August 29, our city will be buzzing. Homes, restaurants, businesses, coffee shops, schools, places of worship, and more will be filled with hundreds of conversations about our community and what makes it a strong and connected place to live, work, and play. And we want you to be a part of it! There are 3 easy ways to get involved.
But first, what is The Big Table? The Big Table is a day of community building through conversations designed to strengthen and connect Columbus to create deeper understandings of each other and what our community needs.
1. Host your own conversation.Ā Hosts play a vital role in making The Big Table a successāand the best part is that it’s so easy to do! We believe anyone and everyone can host a conversation. Here’s how it works:
- Simply invite 8-12 people for a conversation on August 29 (or invite 4 acquaintances & have them bring a friend!).
- Find a place for the conversation. (It can be anywhere, get creative!)
- Bring some food or drink. (It adds to the fun & helps break the ice!)
- Guide the conversation as needed. (Check out our Conversation Guide for tips!)
- Register your conversation so we know you’re participating!
- Complete a brief survey about your Big Table experience.
- Encourage your guests to respond to the brief survey too. That’s it!
- Still not sure? The Host Toolkit walks you through everything you need to know to feel prepared and confident in your conversation.
2. Host a public conversation. This is a great option if you’re interested in connecting with people you may not otherwise meet, while still playing an important role in the day of community-building. Here’s how it works:
- Visit the Public Host registration page.
- Fill in your information.
- Select the partner location where you’d like to host (including Columbus Metropolitan Library, Hot Chicken Takeover, and Jeni’s Scoop Shops!)
- Select the time and the specific location that works best for you.
- Guide the conversation as needed. (Check out our Conversation Guide for tips!)
- Complete a brief survey about your Big Table experience.
- Encourage your guests to respond to the brief survey too. That’s it!
3. Attend a public conversation as a participant. Similar toĀ the public host option, this is a great way to connect with people you may not otherwise meet, with the details decided on already. Here’s how it works:
- Visit the Public ParticipantĀ registration page.
- Fill in your information.
- Select the partner location where you’d like to participate (including Columbus Metropolitan Library, Hot Chicken Takeover, and Jeni’s Scoop Shops!)
- Select the time and the specific location that works best for you.
- Attend and contribute to the conversation on August 29!
- Complete a brief survey about your Big Table experience.Ā That’s it!
